Phase 2: Producing, marketing and selling product.  Given the low production cost of the solar cell product we expect total costs  of 500,000 to sell the fist 10,000 with subsequent cost of sales decreasing.

Business Overview: 

The California Department of Energy estimates 24 billion dollars is lost annually because of inefficient electricity distribution. Five College Energy Solutions has a product marketed for utilities to reduce that loss substantially. 

 

Our specially designed solar cells will be placed on transmission poles to reduce line loss. Our product opens access to new markets because of usability in low-sunlight climates.   Our solar cells will boost line efficiency by augmenting transmission line power and do so at a zero generation cost.  The cost of the solar cells will be fixed, will not require volatile commodity inputs and unlike most green energy does not suffer from diseconomy of scales.

Transmission line loss is responsible for 24 billion dollars of wasted electricity each year.  Our product will reduce line loss in a cost-effective matter and by doing it using a mode of green energy which has shown to be increasingly popular with customers.

Our target market represents a significant share of the utility market.  Our target market focuses on business and public entities who sale or transmit electricity using transmission networks.

We are not aware of any corporations or start up firms operating with similar technology.  Indirectly we will compete with on site generation firms.

We will sell directly to private and public utilities and energy network operators.  In addition we will target developing nations who are still in the process of establishing national grids.

Product/Services Overview (what does it do): 

By installing specially designed solar cells on transmission poles we will reduce the line loss doing so will reduce the increase of electricity sent from transformer stations to compensate the loss of electricity and the amount of electricity loss during transmission.  The solar cells will boost line efficiency by augmenting the amount of power introduced to the line and would do so at zero generation cost.   In addition because of the fixed cost of our product they will be feasible in climates areas of limited sunlight like the northeast/northwest because any increase of line power at zero generation cost is of benefit to utilities.   The cost of the solar cells will be fixed and unlike other methods of generation do not require commodities and like traditional use of solar cells/wind energy do not suffer from diseconomy of scales.
