IT'S'unlimited - advanced technology delivering 100% sustainable energy directly to end-users

Dr. Louis Arnoux · Wed, 01/25/2012 - 11:09

Technology

What makes the technology/business unique and have a defendable competitive advantage?:

We can compete with fossil or nuclear derived energy without governmental intervention or assistance because we can deliver over 55% electrical efficiency and around 90% total energy efficiency at the point-of-use versus less than 20% for legacy infrastructures or most emerging renewable technologies. We are able to deliver this from super-abundant solar-derived primary energy sources thanks to technologies that remain frugal in terms of capital, operating, and maintenance costs. We consider that in the medium term we can reach around 70% electrical efficiency in the case of networked solar farms applications. We do not know of any other initiative able to offer such a perspective.

Describe in detail the technology used in the Project - Address the innovation in significant detail :

The nGeni Technology is based on a very innovative application of the well known thermodynamic Brayton cycle and revolutionary networking communications technology. A patent application is underway.  Detailed information about the nGeni Technology is highly commercially sensitive.  Information will be supplied to interested parties under strict non-disclosure, non-circumvention agreements.

What are the principles of the technology? :

Please refer to the above question.

What, if anything, has been proven (and how far is this from a commercial scale)? :

All components and their integration have been proven.  We plan to achieve commercial stage within 18 months of funding.

What challenges/risk does the technology face for commercialization?:

We regard the nGeni as a disruptive technology.  Its aim is to change the “rules of the game” in the energy sector in order to play a catalytic role and contribute to a rapid transition to sustainable energy supplies independent from fossil or nuclear fuels and not generating greenhouse gases.  The main challenges and risk concern legacy operators and technology suppliers as well as new technology developers the nGeni Technology may displace.  For this reason our commercial strategy focuses on cooperation with carefully chosen, robust manufacturing partners in all application sectors (stationary and transport applications) and on cooperation with legacy infrastructure operators instead of competition.

Business Overview:

IT'S'unlimited is a young innovative enterprise being developed with the objective of removing rapidly the technological barriers (high costs and low yields) that currently block access to super abundant, low cost and durable solar energy.  We are introducing a set of revolutionary energy technologies, the nGeni, enabling an easy, rapid and extremely competitive transition from energy derived from fossil or nuclear fuels towards sustainable energy supplies ultimately 100% derived from solar sources.  For us “solar” includes both direct solar influx and various forms of biomass (such as biogas, bio-oils, algae and derivatives, ethanol, agricultural residues and forestry, and any other form of biomass produced for energy in sustainable ways).

Project Location:

IT'S'unlimited-France s.a.s.
What are your future milestones, and how much capital will you need to achieve each of the milestones outlined?:

1:  Development of the nGeni Design Platform and Demonstration:   €263,000; 2:  Development of the first nGeni Commercial Application:   €237,000; Total:  €500,000

What is your total and operating cash burn (the amount you're spending) per month? :

Variable cash burn. Expenditure only when cash is available and that is predicted to be €27,000 per month.

How many future rounds of financing do you project? :

Based on pre-marketing of the technology and development work already accomplished, only one round of financing is planned to reach commercial operations and self-funding stage.

Who is the Customer?:

Within our commercialisation framework through licenses our immediate customers include industrial and commercial partners corresponding to the whole range of stationary and mobile (land, sea and air transport) applications at the national and global levels.

Overall, the ultimate clientèle for nGeni includes all energy use sectors, stationary or mobile, i.e. the residential, commercial, industrial, agricultural and transport sectors.

What is the Customer Pain that you are solving?:
  • Economic, financial, social, and political consequences of the peaking of annual supplies of fossil fuels and Uranium that must be expected to be largely completed by around 2020. Specifically oil importing countries must reduce their oil consumption in the order of 20% over the next 10 years, by 50% over 25 years and by 50% by 2045. There are presently no adequate stopgap measures ready for implementation on a global scale within the required timeframe.
  • Obsolescence of the central power station model that results in the wasting of roughly some 80% of the primary energies used in power generation while in a wide array of economies, electricity demand has overtaken supply capacity, resulting in random blackouts of 8 hours/day on average or in rolling brownouts substantially impeding business.
Names of any current or recent customers:

We are in the process of setting up several reference projects: marine retrofit (replacement of diesel engines in small to medium size pleasure and commercial vessels – expected reduction in fuel costs: 50%), power supply to 400ha farm in Nicaragua (10kW thermal solar application), power, air conditionings, hot water supply and waste water recycling to new 400 house residential development/resort in Nicaragua (over 2MW thermal solar application), power generation from low grade gas from urban waste in France and Italy.

What is the Target Market?:

The 90% of all energy use takes place in distributed fashion with power requirements at each point of use of less than 1 MW.

Stationary applications: Switching from obsolete centralized models to efficient systems deployed in distributed and non-hierarchical nGeni Intelligent Networks would provide access to previously wasted funds spent on waste heat and turn them into very substantial profits.

Transport applications: The nGeni can be adapted very quickly to transport applications (sea, land and air) for retrofitting existing vehicles as well as new ones in ways enabling a transition to sustainable forms of transport.

How big is the Target Market in terms of Annual Sales?:
> $50B
Sales/Marketing Strategy:

We license our technology to carefully selected industrial partners to form value adding partnerships (VAPs) in order to develop and market globally the entire range of potential applications of nGeni: individual installations in domestic, commercial, or industrial settings, large networks of solar farms, intelligent energy networks, as well as marine, terrestrial and air transport.

Licensing activities and VAP development is planned to take place for each application and/or in each country or world region. In other words market development is being planned according to a matrix of Applications Sectors x Geographical Zones enabling a coherent strategy for accelerated commercialisation.

Provide use cases :

Case study data will be provided upon demand under strict non-disclosure agreements.

Competition:

Presently, none of the technologies aiming for sustainability compete with fossil or nuclear-derived energy without massive governmental intervention or assistance. There is a huge void to be filled urgently between rapidly increasing energy demands and supplies that are beginning to fail, all being compounded by increasingly severe environmental challenges. We can address these challenges cost-effectively and rapidly because we can deliver to end-users over 55% electrical efficiency and around 90% total energy efficiency at the point-of-use versus less than 20% for legacy infrastructures or most emerging renewable technologies. We are able to deliver this from super abundant solar-derived primary energy sources thanks to technologies that remain frugal in terms of capital, operating and maintenance costs. We can reach around 70% electrical efficiency in the medium-term for networked solar farms applications.

One-line Pitch:

It’s IT, it’s Solar, it’s Sustainable, and it’s Unlimited: IT’ S’unlimited….  Integrated, advanced Information Technology (IT) and Solar Technology, delivering abundant, 100% sustainable energy at costs substantially lower than fossil fuels or nuclear, without recourse to heavy-handed government interventions.

Business Model:

Our overall goal is to achieve a rapid adoption by end users of nGeni products and services using well-proven mass consumption marketing methods (e.g. re household appliances, small electronics, mobile phones, insurances).  To achieve this we plan to license our technology to carefully selected industrial partners to form value adding partnerships (VAPs) for the entire range of nGeni applications: individual installations in domestic, commercial, or industrial settings, large networks of solar farms, intelligent energy networks, as well as marine, terrestrial and air transport.

Licensing activities and VAP development are planned to take place for each application and/or in each country or world region according to a matrix of Applications Sectors x Geographical Zones enabling a coherent strategy for accelerated commercialisation.

Licenses will preferably include business and financial models as well as specific technology applications. Our objective is to offer clients highly competitive, 100% sustainable services on a zero-capital cost and zero-hassle basis (concerning installation, operation, maintenance and upgrades).

Product/Services Overview (what does it do):

We use well proven existing technology components, know how, expertise, and skills, and integrate them in novel fashions into cutting edge revolutionary systems, the nGeni, able to deliver on customers’ premises all forms of energy required by our advanced lifestyles (electricity, cold and hot flows) in a sustainable manner from a wide range of primary energy sources, eventually and very rapidly 100% from solar derived energy. The nGeni enable achieving this at lower costs than nuclear or fossil fuels based infrastructures, while resulting in the creation of sustainable, high quality jobs in very large numbers and while also catalysing a new prosperity-creating dynamic.
