Non-Profit Organization Management

OnGreen, the global marketplace for cleantech opportunities, announced today they are collaborating with Venture for America, a non-profit mobilizing young, talented grads to spend two years at start-ups in under served communities. Both organizations aim to create more jobs and bring resources necessary to create sustainable communities.

Venture for America (VFA) launched this summer, and in its first year will place 50 talented fellows in start-up companies located in Detroit, New Orleans, and Providence. The goal is to help these recent grads build core skills in budding start-ups, reinvest in disadvantaged communities, and ultimately, create 100,000 new jobs by 2025.

Andrew Yang, Founder and President of Venture for America, also a serial entrepreneur, started the non-profit after getting in the trenches of the startup world.  Combined with his understanding of Teach for America, a successful non-profit that attracts top tier college graduates, VFA seeks to provide a similar model of cultivating young professionals and allowing them give back to communities.

"OnGreen is proud to partner with Venture For America on helping bridge the gap via financial and human capital resources to help entrepreneurs in the cleantech space get access to the necessary resources to help fuel the 21st century green economy,” said G. Nagesh Rao, Director of Business Development at OnGreen.

Today, during the “Champions of Change” program, the White House recognized Yang along with other young entrepreneurs who have creative companies and are bringing services and products to market.  Nagesh expressed his excitement, “We are proud to forge a partnership with Andrew, a recent White House Champion of Change, and his superb team.”

OnGreen joins VFA in a symbiotic partnership as it just wrapped up its first China Capital Roadshow that recruited cleantech start-ups to attend business matching meetings China. The  objective of the trip to Shanghai and Nanjing was to reach investment partnerships that accelerate cleantech innovation worldwide.  With OnGreen and VFA working together in an integrated fashion, both parties can reach the same goals of providing quality jobs and stimulating the economy.  "We're excited to work with OnGreen to help identify and support the best sustainable energy companies in the country.  These are exactly the sort of companies that we want to see succeed and thrive," says Yang.

VFA will be a supporting partner for OnGreen's upcoming events including the OnGreen Venture Roadshow, where a select group of cleantech entrepreneurs will join Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and key leaders of his delegation to match top US cleantech companies with potential investors and partners from China.
