Though the announced 2.9-4.73 percent tariffs were far lower than the 20-30 percent expected, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce said that the United States' announcement of punitive duties on Chinese solar imports will hurt both sides and hurt the development of the renewable energy industry in America. Though disappointed at the decision, Chinese manufacturers pledged to continue providing markets to the US market. The Chinese domestic market itself was five times as large in 2011 as it was in 2010, and is expected to triple this year.
