Is there really such a thing like "clean coal"?

I keep reading more and more journal articles about "clean coal," "CCS (Carbon capture and storage), or schemes about letting carbon deep into the ocean.  I'm dubious.  Is there a science to this, or are we being bamboozled by the energy industry???

Have you heard about clean coal technology as, this technology is being developed to reduce the environmental impact of coal energy generations and it implies to make coal a fuel source which is free of carbon dioxide.

I have heard that supporters of clean coal use great plains synfuel plant to support the feasibility of co2 sequestration.
