For information: The Rankings go further than a simple "naming and shaming" campaign as they have been specifically designed to create an effective tool for investors to help tackle climate change.
Each companies within the indexes is penalised or rewarded according to its position in the Carbon Ranking, which means that if a large enough pool of investors begin to track these indexes then pressure can be applied to a company's share price to reduce its emissions.
The Environmental Tracking indexes, as they are known, effectively offer investors the same risk-returns profile as traditional index methods, whilst also providing a mechanism to harness the power of the financial system to bridge the greatest gap currently facing the climate change movement - the lack of incentive for individuals, companies and governments to act.
