We use 95% recycled copper 16oz sheets with decorative perforations to create zero-waste sustainable shade, community connectivity, and low-energy usable outdoor spaces, but the green industry is mixed on judging our applications for such a material. Given the high-VOC, chemical toxicity of maintenance, and short lifespan of competing products, it seems an easy decision, but I'd like your feedback.
NOTES:
Since the copper we use is 95% recycled, much of that is post-consumer, but content varies.
New reports (2007) show that the patina on copper naturally protects copper from releasing copper ions in storm water runoff. No toxicity was found in streams surrounding universities with entire copper roofs.
