I am a graduate of the University of Birmingham (UK) and awarded a M.A. in Social and Political Theory. I wrote my dissertation on the philosophy of technology and used Solar energy as a case study. Now I am going through hundreds op jobs in the renewable energy industry and almost in 99% of the cases they ask for a Msc and sometimes a MBA.
I decided to take my M.A. dissertation further into a Phd research on the political sociology of solar energy and I am now exploring some fields by putting questions to experts out there.
I would like to put this question out there: Is my personal frustration a general problem in the renewable energy field? In other words, is the field dominated by technical experts who know a lot about improving renewable technology but not how to create political and social coalitions?
and is there a lack of a grand social narrative that creates a common goal for the renewable energy field? For example, the use of oil is inherently connected to the American values of mobility and individuality, hence the addiction to oil. Renewable energy does not relate to grand American values (I believe it does, but there is no clear focus on it).
I welcome any answers or opinions on these matters,
Kind regards,
Siward Zomer
