I heard a radio piece about an institute in Rwanda that is converting waste from livestock and humans to generate power. The Kigali Institute of Science, Technology and Management (KIST) went from helping power farms w/methane from cow dung to powering part of a prison w/treated human poo. Prisoner poo, to be exact.
Very cool. I looked around and found an announcement by HP that it's considering locating data centers near dairy farms so that it can get more P2P (poo to power) energy from the cows there. http://www.hp.com/hpinfo/newsroom/press/2010/100519xc.html
