STEVEN FAWKES BSc, DipTechEcon, PhD, CEng, FEI, FBIS
Steven is a partner and Head of New Energy, Power and Clean-tech Research at Matrix Corporate Capital LLP. Prior to joining Matrix Steven had over 20 years experience of improving energy efficiency in a wide range of organisations and creating and advising energy businesses. His PhD was concerned with the potential for energy efficiency in UK industry. His career achievements include:
• Establishing RWE npower Solutions energy services team
• Development of multi-utility outsourcing project for Diageo Park Royal Brewery that reduced energy consumption by 40%.
• Development of Sainsbury’s project which has reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 11% per square metre
• Developed energy efficiency programmes for Romania funded by EU, UNDP, World Bank, EBRD and USAID.
• EU High Level Policy Adviser on Energy Efficiency to Government of Romania.
• Co-founding the first industrial Energy Service Company in Romania.
• Implementing multi-site energy management programmes. Largest client had 1,500 major buildings and an annual spend of £60M, savings of 15% were achieved.
• Publishing over 85 articles and papers on energy, environment and space issues. His first book; “Outsourcing of energy management” appeared in Spring 2007, published by Gower.
He has also completed a Certificate in Sustainable Management at Cambridge University and UKSIP Level 3 in Investment Management. His interests include aviation (he has a Private Pilots Licence) and space travel, particularly space tourism. As well as writing papers on space tourism he has flown in the zero-g cosmonaut training aircraft and in a Mig-25 to 25,000 metres, one quarter of the way to space.
