Mare Initiative came into existence around 2005/2006 during nightlong brainstorms of his founder and president Wolfgang Ehrlich and participating friends, all very concerned by one simple constat: we had reached the "End of cheap and abundant " oil, and were entering the era of dangerously hard to get, expensive, hard to refine oil. This means vast and dire consequences to our civilization. Put Climate Change in this mix and we are running into a perfect, devastating storm. Paradigm shift had happened. If not mitigated, realistically, it means, over a short period of time, very, very dramatic changes to the very ways of life we are enjoying in our western world. And not a chance for emerging countries. As we know by now, Nuclear Power is not the answer.

Some "out of the box", new approach is needed to make a significant contribution to this predicament which looms by now over all our heads.

At Mare Initiative, we have taken steps, explored new ways, and are on to some very promising, very large scale solutions that can and will make "the difference".
